“If it wasn’t for programs like this, students wouldn’t participate in these types of activities. We wouldn’t have the opportunity to build relationships with them.”
– Jim Farrenkopf, School Resource Officer
Westbrook High School
The 75 partners and volunteers working as Westbrook Children’s Project (WCP) support programs with life-changing impact for our youth. Working across all sectors of the community we use data and shared knowledge to develop and implement strategies to achieve identified short- and long-term outcomes that support our overall goal of supporting Westbrook youth before, during, and after school so they can graduate from high school ready for success.
For instance, our youth prevention efforts led by Westbrook Partners for Prevention (formerly Westbrook Communities That Care) and its Youth Leadership Council have brought together students, families, businesses, law enforcement, and others in the community to support prevention messages and initiatives, resulting in impressive decreases in youth alcohol use. Another great example is our summer food program, which has served over 100,000 meals since 2013. And to get families and their children school ready, over the past six years, we have provided nearly 1,000 “Welcome to Kindergarten” literacy kits.
